New frugal discovery to share - are you ready???? Thrifting! I've been to thrift stores before, but never thought before about going on a regular basis to find items I'd normally buy elsewhere. The Thrifty Chicks have a great blog that explains it. To make it even better, thrifting is environmentally friendly! Love it!
The blog inspired me to go thrifting today while DS was in preschool. I left with a pair of like new black flat shoes for my sister for $3.00, (she's been making me look with her for an affordable pair for at least a month now) an adorable little flatware tray that I'm going to repaint and repurpose for $2.50, and a super cute jean newborn dress from Baby Gap for $1.50. Nothing really fancy, but I'm pretty pleased. I'm going to try thrifting for a while and promise to share my finds.
I'm all for it. Can you find those shoes in a 10W??
ReplyDeleteand I LOVE the pinafore....got tights?
Mema: I think I have one or two pairs that my sis and mom picked up for me somewhere. I'd like to get some of those babyleggs. Have you heard of them? They're just like leg warmers...but go from thigh to ankle. That way you get the look of tights, but can easily change the diaper!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the wonderful world of thrifting. Don't forget the book section in the thrift store. There are always bargains there. And it's the best place to get a breadmaker if you want one. People are always giving them away.
ReplyDeleteFrugal Maven: I actually have a breadmaker. My mom found it for me at a yard sale. I've always been an avid yard saler! However, I really want a waffle maker. Keep your eye out for me, will ya?!?
ReplyDeleteWhile on Jury Duty recently I bonded with the director of development at Goodwill during the days and days we had to wait. He said that what is dropped off at a location stays at the location for sale, so choose a part of town that suits your fashion tastes and go for it. (He also said that amazing things, WITH THE PRICE TAGS STILL ON, show up quite often) I went to the main one on East Broadway a few weeks ago and there were some really cute things. I plan to hit the one in the east end this week.
ReplyDeleteP.S. The Target on Westport Road near St. Matthews is closing today for construction. I plan to go back today. Yesterday I picked up a couple of shirts for $2.27!!!
Thanks for all of your great information! I love it!
Mary: Thanks for the tip on the Target. I completely forgot about today being the last day. I think they close at 5 p.m. or something wierd like that. I'm there!
ReplyDeleteKim - Well, I went to Target Saturday and there was only on really small sale rack when there were a number of them on Friday. Sorry to send you on a hunt with no results. I think they plan to take the unsold merchandise to other Targets....dang.
ReplyDeleteI ended up missing it anyway. :( But, I guess I didn't miss anything, right! Oh well, I'm off to check on something (and hopefully buy it) that I found on craigslist. Hope it works out!
ReplyDeleteIf you are still looking for babyleggs, check etsy.com. I got my DD some last year and they were only $5.50 and shipping was $1.75!! They were good quality and loved the cheaper price too! We got a lot of use out of them! I just checked and the person I bought them from is no longer selling them, but there are quite a few others on etsy.com...could save you some money! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteAndrea T.: That's a great idea! I haven't been on etsy in a while, that's probably the best place (besides yardsales) to find those babyleggs! Thanks!
